Comprehensive bibliography of Orang Asli studies: going out of print

What a pleasure to announce that a book with my name on it is going out of print...

In 2001, I assembled (with a lot of help from colleagues) what remains the only comprehensive and annotated bibliography of Orang Asli studies. Thanks to the generous support of Kyoto University's Center for Southeast Asian Studies, the bibliography was able to materialize as:

Lye Tuck-Po, ed. 2001. Orang Asli of Peninsular Malaysia: A comprehensive and annotated bibliography. CSEAS Research Report Series no. 88. Kyoto: Center for Southeast Asian Studies, Kyoto University.

If you're unfamiliar with Malaysia, Orang Asli ("original people") refers to the indigenous ethnic minorities of Peninsular Malaysia (including among them, the Batek, to whom this blog is partially dedicated). The bibliography contains over 1700 references to Orang Asli research materials, dating from the 17th century onwards. Apart from the standard literature sources, there are listings of audiovisual materials and archival collections around the world. From inception to publication, we took over two years to compile the references and annotations, with some coming in even as the manuscript was going into press. I will admit it, this book remains an indispensable work of reference.

Well, seven years on, the bibliography is still in demand, but I'm running out of copies for distribution. In fact, I have just six copies left in storage. Drop me a line at tplye[at]yahoo.com if you'd like one (it will not be gratis, of course). Alternatively, try the libraries. We sent out copies to all the major libraries in Malaysia and, around the world, those with some focus on Malaysian or Southeast Asian Studies (try searching for a library near you, though the WorldCat listing is far from complete).
